New Year Resolutions

The tradition of making new year resolutions has been around for a long time. They were once focused on topics linked to religion, such as past mistakes and sins, the  person resolved to do better in the coming year. Today, the new year resolution is generally focused on self-improvement for success of some sort.

According to many researchers, approximately 80% of people have given up on their new year resolutions within six weeks. The resolution to lose weight is not easy and many people reading this have tried to lose weight several times in their lives and have either given up or have been successful for a time, but ended up putting the weight back on.

The mental aspect of losing weight should not be dismissed. Losing weight, like other goals, must be approached with a positive mental attitude for success. It is not purely physical and you can prove this to yourself by examining the reasons for past failures. These previous failures are normally due to thought processes such as “it’s too hard”, “i’m upset about (INSERT EXCUSE HERE), so I don’t want to do it anymore”, “ “i’ll never be able to do it” etc. If a person can focus thoughts that allow him/her to walk barefoot across hot coals, take repeated strikes to the stomach with a bat, walk when doctors say it’s impossible etc, then you can, with focus, lose weight. Use the full power of your mind.

Of course, the physical aspects of losing weight play a large part in success, but a focused mind will help to ease the pain, motivate you and encourage you to follow your plan. The first step in any goal is to believe that you can do it.

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.”  Henry Ford.

Eating healthy food and cutting out foods that are heavily processed will help tremendously with your diet. It will help you to lose weight and improve your health. Following an exercise routine is another element to consider, you don’t have to run marathons or run yourself into the ground with aerobics at the gym. Find the form of exercise that you enjoy the most and do it.

Here are my suggested steps to help you in your resolution to lose weight.

  1. Get your thinking right, help yourself with affirmations, meditation and positive verbal and written repetitions daily. Believe 100% that you can and will be successful. Don’t dwell on past failures.

  1. Have a plan. Either do the research yourself or buy a weight loss program that sounds sensible to you. Implement that plan. Study it and don’t rely on other people to interpret the plan for you, if you are buying the plan.

  1. Find an exercise program that you enjoy, begin it and stick with it. My suggestion is weight training of some sort.

     4. Be consistent and be patient with yourself and the process. Significant weight loss             will not occur overnight.

  1. Understand that long-term weight loss is a lifestyle change. Learn all that you can about nutrition and healthy eating because you will need the information for long-term success.

Happy New Year
